245 Calorie Banana Bread Overnight Oats

Jar of banana bread overnight oats with banana slices

Banana bread overnight oats use one mashed ripe banana to make two jars of about 245 calories each, so breakfast fits into a calorie deficit when you are losing weight. The mashed banana does the work of sugar and butter, and cinnamon gives it the smell of a baked loaf.

Tips & Substitutions

Spoonful of banana bread overnight oats above the jar

Use a really ripe banana. The browner the peel, the sweeter the oats taste.

Walnuts on top. 1 tablespoon of chopped walnuts adds about 50 calories and turns it into walnut banana bread.

Pinch of nutmeg. It adds the bakery spice with almost no calories.

Use up old bananas. Freeze overripe ones, thaw, and mash them for an extra soft jar.

How to Make It More Filling

At 245 calories this is already a solid jar. For a little more protein, add 1 extra tablespoon of Greek yogurt to each jar (about 10 calories).

Storage

Keep both jars covered in the fridge for up to 3 days. The banana darkens a little, which is normal. Stir well before eating, and do not freeze.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make just one jar?

Yes. Halve everything and mash half a banana.

Why does banana make oats taste sweet?

Ripe bananas turn starch into sugar, which is why spotty ones taste sweetest.

Can I use two bananas?

You can, but each extra half banana adds about 45 calories per jar.

Can I use quick oats?

They turn mushy. Old-fashioned rolled oats work better.
